Greek-Turkish Joint Economic Committee meets in Athens

The fifth meeting of the Greek-Turkish Joint Economic Committee took place Monday in Athens.

The Turkish delegation was led by Deputy Commerce Minister Mustafa Tuzcu, while the Greek delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy Kostas Frangogiannis.

According to a joint statement released following the meeting, the parties welcomed the reactivation of the commission, whose last meeting took place in Ankara more than 11 years ago in October 2010, the official Athens News Agency reported.

The delegations discussed many issues concerning the two neighboring countries, including improving the bilateral trade volume, encouraging companies to develop joint ventures in Greece and Turkiye, strengthening energy cooperation and cooperation in the transportation sector.

Improved cooperation against climate change, environmental protection, and the resumption of bilateral cooperation in research and technology were also among the issues the parties discussed.

Especially concerning the tourism field, both sides expressed satisfaction with the progress made in bilateral cooperation in the area during the fourth session of the Turkish-Greek Joint Tourism Committee meeting on Nov. 18, 2021, and the 9th Hellenic-Turkish Forum on Tourism that took place on Nov. 17, 2021 in Turkiye’s Aegean province of Izmir.
