Nigerian President Urges US to Relocate AFRICOM HQ From Germany to Africa

US Africa Command (AFRICOM) was founded under the US Department of Defense in 2007, and ultimately based in Germany due to concerns about Washington's military presence on Africa. While former US President Donald Trump ordered AFRICOM to move locations, the Pentagon's press secretary recently dashed those hopes.

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari and Nigerian Foreign Affairs Minister Geoffrey Onyeama joined US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday for a brief virtual meeting regarding the African nation's personal security challenges and other regional security concerns.

After exchanging pleasantries about the Biden administration's decision, Buhari voiced his government's concerns and called on the US to mull a major change.
